Western Gold Exploration Ltd’s latest sampling results continue to build a “compelling picture of an emerging gold district” at the Caledonian gold joint venture project in central Scotland.
PROSPECTS
The JV with Acrux Gold Ltd, which owns the Cononish gold mine in Argyll, holds two Crown Estate Mines Royal Option applications, of Lyon and Orchy, covering a combined 500 km² adjacent to the gold mine.
Western Gold’s most recent results are from completed rock-grab sampling, vein mapping and trial soil sampling, taking the total number rock-grab samples assayed to 494 across both licence areas.
At Lyon, the newly identified Chruitein vein – whose mineralisation is comparable to that at Cononish, returned up to 36 g/t gold and 2,760 g/t silver.
Up to 40.5 g/t gold grab sample was discovered from the newly identified Gleann Cailliach prospect which also has a new style of mineralisation.
Soil sampling traced previously unknown features at the Creag Sheileach and Coire a’Ghabhalach prospects, which implied “multiple” targets at each prospect.
At Orchy, Western Gold confirmed historical high-grade gold assays from the sampling, including grab samples up to 95.9 g/t gold at River vein, with visible gold.
The structure is up to 10m wide with at least 500m strike extent.
At the Beinn Udlaidh NE system grab samples returned up to 43.7 g/t gold and 2,260 g/t silver.
Western Gold aims to advance the targets towards drilling, which is scheduled to begin during the Summer.
“Our next phase of work will combine backpack drilling and channel sampling with drone-mounted magnetic surveying and systematic soil sampling,” said chairman Harry Dobson.
“We are building a genuine pipeline and are on track to advance targets towards drilling this summer.”
The Caledonian gold project lies within the highly prospective Grampian Terrane of the Caledonian mineral belt.
In addition to the Cononish mine, the district hosts the Cavanacaw mine in Omagh, operated by Galantas Gold, and the Dalradian Resources-owned Curraghinalt deposit, both in Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

Western Gold’s second project is in the Lorne porphyry complex located in Argyll, western Scotland.
The company holds a 250 km² Crown Estate Mines Royal Option for gold and silver exploration over the Lagalochan and Ardlochan prospects.
