Prospex Energy plc has accepted the formal award of the San and Dunajec gas and oil onshore licences in southern Poland.

The company said that the formal award to its wholly owned local subsidiary PXEN Tatra Sp z.o.o., for a €289,000 fee, is expected to complete during April-May 2026.
Prospex plans to establish a joint venture and/or farm-in as well as funding to progress the projects which have undergone “limited” activity since 2000.
San and Dunajec are located within the Carpathian foredeep geological play, which is “one of the most prolific gas plays in the country, where many gas fields were discovered”.
The company will use “modern imaging, evaluation and development techniques” on both projects.
Prospex added that San covered the foredeep gas play, while the 1,182km2 Dunajec licence covered Miocene gas play and Cretaceous/Jurassic oil and gas play.
Dunajec also includes the “shallow, undeveloped Mnisow oil discovery” which could lead to first production from the new licences
Chief executive officer Tom Reynolds said that the licences were a “ground floor entry into highly prospective licences”.
“Poland is well known for its hydrocarbon resources and has a regulatory regime that is supportive of natural gas investment, as the nation focuses on ensuring energy security.
“Following the award, we will progress the work programmes which we anticipate will be funded from the expanded production income from our broader asset portfolio and from inviting farm-in partners to participate in the licences.”
Prospex applied for the licences in 2025.
