Panther Metals plc has started a sampling programme of tailings at the Winston project on the historic Winston Lake mine in Ontario, Canada.

The work also involves assessment of the financial potential of tailings reprocessing and the opportunities to increase the operational life of the project.
Panther will also evaluate the potential to grow resource based on historical recovery rates.
The project additionally addresses the legacy impact of residual metals on the local environment.
Winston mine operated from 1988 to 1998, producing approximately 3.3 million tonnes of ore and yielding zinc, copper, silver, and gold.
“Based on historic recoveries from mining activities in the 1980s and 1990s, it is believed that a significant quantity of valuable material remains in the tailing storage facility,” said Panther.
“Early analysis suggests that successful reprocessing could nearly double the known resource at the Winston project.”
