OGA investigates possible breach of licence

Posted on 17 February 202116 May 2024 Author editorial Comments Off on OGA investigates possible breach of licence

The Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) said it had opened an investigation into a possible breach of reporting requirements under a licence.

Sanctions: the Oil & Gas Authority’s escalation process before it decides whether or not to exercise its powers (OGA)

The investigation follows an enquiry which concluded that there was sufficient evidence of a breach to go ahead.

OGA said it would gather and assess further information to enable the authority to reach a decision.

The company involved will be offered the opportunity to provide written representations before OGA decides how the case should be resolved.

The investigation has been launched under the OGA’s sanction procedure, and follows the publication in October 2020 of the authority’s Thematic Review into Industry Compliance with Regulatory Obligations. bityl.co/5eEj

The review examined compliance in six areas of interaction between licensees and the OGA which warned that sanctions could follow in cases where breaches were found.

The Oil & Gas Authority has the duty to regulate the industry and has communicated to industry the strategic significance the OGA places on regulatory compliance to support the industry’s ‘social licence to operate’.
