A contractor has died in relation to construction of a leach tank at Metals Exploration plc’s La India gold mine project in Nicaragua.

The company said it had started a full investigation into the death on 19 October and notified relevant authorities.

“The construction site has been closed while the matter remains subject to further investigation and no further details can be released until this investigation is complete,” added Metals.

“The company is saddened by this incident and expresses its deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased individual.

“The safety, health and welfare of all colleagues and contractors remains the company’s top priority and Metals Exploration takes this loss of life incident, and its safety procedures, very seriously.”

The company completed its acquisition, which includes the Estrella and Rio Luna gold deposits as well as La India, from Condor Gold plc in January 2025.
