Europa Oil & Gas (Holdings) plc has been refused permission for a gas appraisal well at Cloughton in Burniston, North Yorkshire.

DISAGREE
Last month, the company said it would lodge an appeal after North Yorkshire Council said it was “minded to” reject the application.
Europa today said: “This refusal is despite the recommendation made by the NYC’s own planning officers who, after rigorously analysing the planning application and the 13 independent experts whose separate reports all supported the application, advised the LPA [local planning authority] to approve the application.
“The company is disappointed with the LPA’s decision and strongly disagrees with the basis of the refusal.
“Europa is now assessing its options with a view to appealing the decision and is confident that on appeal the planning permission will be approved.”
The company’s preliminary audit of gross Cloughton gas in place volumes is a Pmean GIIP of 192 billion cubic feet, with a high-confidence proven 118 bcf.
