Cornish Lithium plc has started a six-week non-statutory consultation with the local community over its Trelavour hard rock project near St Dennis, between Newquay and St Austell.

MINE LIFE
The consultation will cover construction, operation and decommissioning the project which is targeting production of 10,000 tonnes per year of battery-grade lithium hydroxide.
The site already has an existing pit with rail, road and power infrastructure already in place.
The company said it would create no new pits at the site which formerly hosted china clay pits and processing areas.
Construction is expected to take around two years ahead of operations beginning during 2029 for a 20-year life of mine.
Cornish Lithium claims its plans also include “significant enhancements” to biodiversity.
Trelavour’s vice president and general manager Peter Morse added that the project would create around 800 jobs during construction, 300 long-term careers during operations and contribute around £800 million to the economy over 20 years.
“We look forward to continuing our close engagement with the local communities as we take the project forward,” he added.
