Two further production wells planned at Wressle

Two further production wells and a third to well to reinject any water produced with the oil are planned for the Wressle joint venture at Lodge Farm in Broughton, North Lincolnhire.

PROPPANT SQUEEZE

The first well will target the Penistone Flags formation, primarily a gas reservoir, with produced gas exported into the local network via a connection 600 metres southwest of the site on PEDL180 and PEDL182.

The plans, which today opened for public consultation, will see operator Egdon Resources plc (30%) extend the site by 50m to the south, after which it will drill the two wells back to back.

Each well will be around 2,400 to 2,700m in length and the bottom hole locations will be around 1,800 to 1,860m below ground level.

“It is likely that both of the production wells will need to have the same proppant squeeze process that was successfully applied to the Wessle-1 in 2021,” said Egdon in its consultation document.

“Once this is complete, we expect that the wells will flow to their full potential and will contribute gas to the network for many years to come.”

The company will drill and test the wells before installing gas processing equipment to feed the gas into the network “as soon as possible”.

Egdon will submit planning and environmental applications with technical surveys before operations can begin.

In 2022, the North Sea Transition Authority approved the development and production plans.

The JV, which includes Union Jack Oil plc (40%) and Europa Oil & Gas (Holdings) plc (30%), expects production to continue until 2039.
