Helium One starts exploration drilling at Rukwa

Helium One Global Ltd said it had started its exploration drill programme at its 100%-owned Rukwa project in Tanzania.

Target: lessons learnt from the first well will be applied to the drilling of subsequent wells (Helium One)

Last Friday (12 June), the company began drilling at Tai which it recently categorised as a ‘must drill’ three-way dip closure following a recent 2D infill seismic.

Helium One’s three-well exploration programme is targeting shallow trap structures to a maximum depth of 1,200m.

PROGRAMME

Exploration drilling includes micro gas chromatograph and mini mass spectrometer used to identify elevated levels of helium in mud and reportable as a helium show.

On completion, wireline logs will be run to measure formation properties downhole and to identify any pay zones in the success case.

Any discovery will be tested with a drill stem test to attempt to flow a sample of gas to surface for grade analysis.

Chief executive David Minchin that the exploration programme was the culmination of five years’ work and would include three holes testing three different styles of trap.

“Each well will take roughly one month to complete with lessons learnt from the first well applied to refine and de-risk drilling of subsequent wells.”
